What is GoHighLevel? A plain-English guide
By FixGHLLast updated
GoHighLevel, also called HighLevel or GHL, is a sales and marketing platform for small businesses and the agencies that serve them. One account holds a CRM, funnels and websites, email and SMS, booking calendars, workflow automation, reviews and payments. Plans start at $97 a month, and every plan comes with a 14-day free trial.
This guide explains what GoHighLevel does, who it suits, which tools it can replace and how to get started. Prices and features were checked against HighLevel's own pages on 29 October 2026. Sources are listed at the end.
What does GoHighLevel do?
GoHighLevel captures leads, follows up with them and turns them into bookings and sales from one login. A form on a GHL funnel creates a contact in the CRM, a workflow sends the first text and email, the lead books through a GHL calendar and moves along a pipeline. HighLevel describes the product as "the AI-powered business operating system".
HighLevel's pricing page lists these core features on every plan:
| Area | What is included |
|---|---|
| Leads and sales | CRM and pipelines, forms, surveys and quizzes, booking calendars, a prospecting tool |
| Marketing | Website and funnel builder, email and SMS marketing, social media management, an ad manager |
| Conversations | One inbox for SMS, email, calls and social messages, inbound and outbound calling |
| Automation | Workflow automation, plus AI tools such as Conversation AI, Voice AI and Content AI |
| Customers | Online reputation management, payments and invoicing, courses and communities |
| Running the account | Custom dashboards and reporting, domain management, the HighLevel mobile app, API access |
Calling, SMS, email and some AI features are billed by usage on top of the plan. Our GoHighLevel pricing guide lists every rate.
Is it GoHighLevel, HighLevel or GHL?
They are the same product. The company's footer reads "HighLevel LLC, a subsidiary of GoHighLevel Inc.", with its head office in Dallas, Texas. Users log in at app.gohighlevel.com. "GHL" is the short form people use in forums and job posts, and "Go High Level" is a common spelling of the same name.
Agencies can also white-label the web app, so some people use GoHighLevel every day under another brand's name without knowing it.
Who is GoHighLevel for?
GoHighLevel suits two groups: single businesses that want their marketing and follow-up in one place, and agencies that run that system for several clients. HighLevel describes its $97 Starter plan as "perfect for smaller businesses and solo marketers" and its $297 Unlimited plan as "built for growing agencies".
In our work, the businesses that get the most from it are coaches, consultants, clinics, home services and other local businesses that live on booked calls and appointments. Agencies use it to give each client their own account while managing all of them from one agency login.
It suits you less well if you only need one of its tools, such as a scheduler on its own, or if you run a large ecommerce catalog.
What does GoHighLevel replace?
GoHighLevel can replace several separate subscriptions. HighLevel's pricing page says most users replace their CRM, funnel builder, email marketing software, appointment scheduler, SMS marketing tools and review management software. Whether that saves money depends on how many of those tools you pay for today and how much you send.
| Job | Tools people often move from | What does that job in GHL |
|---|---|---|
| Landing pages and funnels | ClickFunnels, Wix, Kajabi pages | Funnel and website builder |
| CRM and pipeline | HubSpot, spreadsheets | Contacts, opportunities and pipelines |
| Email marketing | Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign | Email marketing and LC Email |
| Scheduling | Calendly | Booking calendars |
| Text messaging | A separate SMS tool | Conversations and the phone system |
| Reviews | A review request tool | Reputation management |
If you are moving from one of these, we have a guide to migrating from ClickFunnels to GoHighLevel and a side-by-side comparison.
How do agencies and sub-accounts work?
A GoHighLevel subscription is an agency account. Inside it you create sub-accounts, one for each business, each with its own contacts, calendars, funnels, phone numbers and workflows. The Starter plan includes 3 sub-accounts. The Unlimited and $497 plans include as many sub-accounts as you need.
A single business usually runs from one sub-account and leaves the agency view alone. An agency gives each client a sub-account and can copy a full setup between them with a snapshot.
How much does GoHighLevel cost?
GoHighLevel has three self-serve plans: Starter at $97 a month, Unlimited at $297 a month and a $497 plan that HighLevel's pricing page calls Founder. An Enterprise plan is quoted separately. Every plan includes unlimited contacts and users, and there is no long-term contract.
Phone numbers, SMS, calls, email sending and some AI features cost extra, based on use. Those charges come out of a prepaid wallet. Our full GoHighLevel pricing guide breaks down each plan, the usage rates and which plan fits which business.
How do you get started with GoHighLevel?
Start the 14-day free trial, set up one sub-account properly, then build a single lead flow before adding anything else. Most stalled accounts we see tried to switch everything on in the first week. One working flow, from form to booked call, teaches you most of the platform.
- Start the trial and pick the plan you expect to use. You can upgrade or downgrade later.
- Create your sub-account and add your business details, time zone and team.
- Connect your domain for funnels, and set up a dedicated sending domain for email.
- Buy a phone number and complete A2P registration if you will text US contacts.
- Build one funnel, one calendar and one workflow that follows up with every new lead.
- Test it end to end with your own email and phone number before you send traffic to it.
HighLevel also offers ready-made snapshots for common industries. If you would rather have the account built for you, our GHL setup service does this in the right order.

Is GoHighLevel hard to learn?
GoHighLevel is easy to start and slower to master. Building a funnel or a calendar takes an afternoon. Workflows, email deliverability, phone compliance and SaaS mode take longer, because each has settings that interact. Expect a few weeks before the whole account runs without you checking it daily.
HighLevel provides a help center, live chat support, video training and snapshots. The pricing page says you do not need to be technical to use it, which holds for the basics. The settings that cause most problems later are the sending domain, A2P registration and workflow triggers, so those are worth getting right early.
